How to Get Griffin in Ride A Pet: Volcanic Egg Guide

Learn the Griffin hunt: find the Volcanic Egg in Dragon’s Lair, practice the cave exit, carry it home and finish the hatch. Includes route video and fixes.

Before you start your Griffin hunt

• Prepare a flying mount. Published guides recommend Phoenix or a better flying pet. Practice with the mount you own; we have no tested minimum speed or proof that only Phoenix can complete the route. See Phoenix acquisition options if you need one.
• Make room. Leave basket capacity for the pickup and a place for the egg at your ranch. Resolve capacity messages before travelling.
• Check availability. Look for the Volcanic Egg spawn announcement or check the Tracker NPC, as the published guides describe. An old community alert does not reserve an egg.
• Rehearse without an egg. Learn both the climb out of the cave and the flight from its exit to your ranch.

How to get Griffin: from the ranch to the hatch

1. Travel toward the Desert biome, then cross the water to Volcano Island. Look for the volcano. The outside approach is described by Pro Game Guides and the September 30 AllThingsHow guide.
2. Find the small opening on the volcano’s side. Guides call it the right-side entrance when approaching the island. Match the doorway in the video below; “right” depends on your viewpoint. The summit crater is not the egg pickup spot.
3. Descend into the cave. Follow the passages and downward openings to the lower lava chamber, called Dragon’s Lair. NerdsChalk places the egg on the nest/platform beside the sleeping guardian. Memorize the openings you will climb back through.
4. Locate the named Volcanic Egg and practice the return. If it is absent, recheck availability. When ready, use the pickup prompt shown on your device.
5. Escape immediately. Follow your rehearsed path upward through the cave. Watch the guardian warning and on-screen countdown; do not stop to open menus or follow a ranch marker through a solid wall.
6. Continue straight to your ranch. Leaving the cave is not delivery. Keep following the current carry timer until you reach home.
7. Place the egg, wait for Ready, then use Hatch. Follow the placement prompt, including dismounting if requested. If you cannot place or hatch it, use the hatching checklist.
8. Read the pet result. Look for Griffin in your owned Pets list. If a different pet hatches, that attempt did not give Griffin; another run is another chance, not a promised success.

Learn the entry and upward escape before pickup

These route-memory diagrams and Prism’s video help you rehearse the difficult part. They show the cave sequence, not exact geometry or compass directions.

Entry: 0:11–0:38 · First exit: 0:40–0:58. The first upward opening appears around 0:48–0:50 and the next around 0:53–0:56. Align your camera with the clip before copying a turn.

How much time do you have to escape?

Plan for a very short escape and return. September 26–30 written guides report 20 seconds inside and another 20 seconds outside. An earlier SpaceQT narration instead reports roughly 40 seconds for the outside leg. These are conflicting reports, not a verified change between versions.

Our earlier review of SpaceQT at 1:35 confirmed a cave warning with 18.9 seconds remaining, not its starting duration. Use the countdown actually displayed in your session. Do not add the reports together or assume a reset at a particular doorway. See the escape evidence for details.

Griffin odds, Luck and repeat attempts

The published Volcanic Egg reference is Ethereal, 2.5T Hatch Luck. That is an egg stat, not a price, a verified personal-Luck requirement or a Griffin drop percentage. We have no verified numerical Griffin chance, required number of eggs or pity counter.

Read your current ranch Luck upgrade and hatch prompts before spending. This guide does not prescribe an unsupported Luck threshold, rebirth reset or paid radar purchase. Beebom explicitly notes that a Volcanic hatch can give something other than Griffin.

In the previously reviewed BemmyBlox ranch sequence at 12:30, a named Volcanic Egg is followed by a result identified as Komodo. It is one recorded outcome, not a complete reward pool. A Griffin silhouette in the Index alone is not confirmation that you own the pet.

Troubleshoot a failed Griffin attempt

I keep searching behind the big tree.

Use the volcano’s lower chamber for this route. An older Griffin article describes mainland tree and rock locations, but the reviewed cave footage and later guides support Volcano Island for the Volcanic Egg.

The egg is missing.

Check the current announcement or Tracker again. We have no verified fixed respawn interval; waiting a made-up number of minutes is not a reliable plan.

My Eternal Radar finds nothing.

Published guides say it does not track Volcanic Egg. Check the target’s availability and learn the cave landmarks rather than treating a paid radar as required. See radar limits.

I lose the egg on the way out.

Rehearse the two upward openings without carrying it. If you reach the exit but fail outside, practice the ranch leg separately.

I hatched another pet.

That is not proof of a broken hatch. Griffin is not guaranteed. Verify the egg name and result before deciding whether to repeat the route.
